Baby breathing monitor
alarm

Medpage™ monitors are designed to detect and raise an alarm to carer’s when a Tonic/Clonic (Grand Mal) seizure occurs. Seizure monitors are Class IIb medical devices. Our monitors are designed and manufactured in accordance with the medical directive EEC 93/42 and carry BSI CE certification, for quality, type approval and performance. We are accredited to ISO 13485:2003. Certificates
The Medpage model MP5 was originally designed at the request of an occupational therapist during 1995 to assist a lone parent with a 13 year old daughter suffering from bad seizures. The mother was extremely anxious and worried to the extent that the daughter shared her bed. After two weeks of successfully detecting her seizures the daughter returned to her own bed. The monitor became commercially available during 1996 and has remained virtually the same as the original design.
Medpage Limited have continued to research and develop new technologies to further improve our seizure monitors. Our latest model, the Medpage ST-2 employs computer processing to analyse a sleeping persons movements during sleep to recognise breathing motions and seizure activity. An alarm is generated for cessation of breathing and seizure detection.
CHOOSING THE APPROPRIATE MODEL
There are three main model choices. Medpage MP2, Medpage MP5, Medpage ST-2. The method of seizure detection for the MP2 and MP5 is the same. It is the alarm to the carer that is different. A bedside monitor powered via a mains charger with battery backup has a sensor connected by a 3 Metre lead. The sensor is positioned under the users mattress. In addition to the bed sensor, a built in microphone detects aural sounds from the sleeping person. Three simple controls allow adjustment of the microphone and bed sensor sensitivity. A delay control provides a certain level of movement to occur before the alarm is raised. This greatly reduces false alarms. For both the MP2 and MP5 there is an option to use an additional bed sensor instead of the built in microphone. A person sleeping alone in a double bed or a child in a single bed may need the additional sensor. The minimum recommended weight of a person to use the MP2 or MP5 is 56lb’s (25.4Kg). When a seizure is detected the MP5 transmits an alarm signal to a radio pager, the MP2 also transmits to a radio pager and can also be used with a desktop multi-channel alarm for multi-patient monitoring. The MP2 can also be used in conjunction with the automatic fall alarm and remote telephone auto dialler. Further advice is available by calling our help-line or by downloading the model manual from our web sites.
The ST-2 is suitable for most people in most bed types for the detection of Tonic/Clonic seizures. Like the MP2 and MP5, a sensor is placed under the users bed mattress. The sensor continually monitors patient movement. The apnoea (breathing) monitor is suitable for most patients but in some cases may have to be disabled leaving only seizure detection. Certain bed types or mattresses can affect the ability of the sensor to detect the breathing movements of some patients. The ST-2 can be used by all age groups and body weights for seizure detection. The on-line manual provides full details.
All Medpage seizure monitors are supplied with a 3 year product guarantee and a 28 day money back product trial period when purchased in the UK.
